STOP USING TAPE ON YOUR FACE!

Please stop using tape to get a sharp eyeliner wing. Using tape can cause a lot of irritation, you can’t put foundation on first (that isn’t required but it’s just a thing to think about), all of that pulling on your skin will probably cause premature wrinkles. For me the biggest thing was realizing how irritated my skin and even my eyes would get after using tape to help me get the best wing.

There are a lot better ways to get the perfect winged eyeliner and here are some that I recommend.

  1. Business card! you can hold it there and use it kind of like a ruler to give you a straight line guide.
  2. The power of the Q-Tip! You can always go back clean up your liner with a little bit of moisturizer (i have a drug store one specifically for this) on a Q-Tip can fix any mistake.
  3. Concealer! If you did your foundation first use a little bit of your concealer to help fix those bumpy lines.
  4. Use gel eyeliner and take your time. When you’re new to eyeliner it can seem daunting and annoying but have a little patience and use a small angle brush.

I see so many young girls putting tape right on their under eyes (past me is guilty of this!) just to get the perfect wing and there are so many better and safer ways to do it.

I would love to hear your secrets! How do you get the perfect wing?

OCTOBER FAVORITES!

I know we are well into November but here are some of the things I loved in October!

CVS After Shave Balm 5 fl oz $5.79

File_002I tried this because Nikkie Tutorials is always raving about what a fantastic makeup primer it is.  She used the Nivea After Shave Balm ($6.99 at CVS) but I am a girl on a budget and went with the store brand.  This is perfect for sensitive skin and I’d say the only downfall is the overwhelming scent that is a little too much for me. The trick is to rub the product into your skin until it starts to feel tacky.

Sensitive Skin Friendly? YES!

Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation  $39.99

I File_009 am the shade Ivory.  I bought this as a small birthday present to myself toward the end of September, a bit of a spurge but I was not disappointed.  This is a oil free foundation that claims to be 12-hour wear.  I don’t know about 12 hours but I will say I was impressed with the coverage and wear.  I took it with me on my vacation to Seattle in October and after a full day of walking around my foundation still looked amazing! It held up very well even when I was climbing the hills around Capitol Hill.  This foundation is a bit thicker consistency that I am use to but surprisingly didn’t feel heavy on my skin.

Sensitive Skin Friendly?  YES!

NYX Cosmetics Slim Lip Pencil $3.49 (ULTA)

nyxlinerI absolutely love this lip liner! The four I own are Hot Red, Natural, Prune, and Rose. These are very smooth and act as a great lip base and are fairly affordable. I find these lip liners to be a great barrier when applying matte liquid lipsticks so that my lips don’t over dry.

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede – Cream Lipstick $6.99 (ULTA)

For me this was a hit and miss product.  I bought 2 shades the first was Cherry Skies and the second Lifes a Beach.

nyxsuedeLife’s a Beach isn’t very opaque and requires a lot of layering and can be a little difficult to get even if you don’t have the patience. The color is a beautiful ‘Barbie’ pink I just wish I didn’t have to put so many layers to get there.  When you use too much the product can be a little over drying.

Cherry Skies on the other hand was absolutely amazing! It’s opaque and not as drying as the other.  I think that is because you can use less product to get the color you’re looking for. This is my absolute favorite fall lip color right now!

What were some of your must have products in October?

Makeup News: Samantha from Batalash lipstick colab with LipLand!

If there is one Youtuber/Social Media entrepreneur I admire A LOT it is Samantha from Batalash. So when she mentioned last week that her lipstick with Lip Land is launching Today (Technically Sunday night) I got really excited!

The lipstick is called Creme Corset and is described by Sam as the perfect nude.  She did some swatches on periscope and Instagram and I must say it looks amazing.

At $14.99 this lipstick seems pretty reasonably priced to me. Way more affordable than the eye shadow palette Batalash did with SauceBox.

I ordered one today and I can’t wait to try it! I’ll keep you updated when it comes in.

June Favorites!

Hempz Herbal Body Moisturizer – Vanilla Plum. I LOVE this lotion! I have extremely sensitive skin. If you look at me too hard i break out in hives. This lotion is very soothing and non greasy, plus it is made from natural ingredients and I haven’t had any adverse reactions to it.  I got it at Marshall’s for 12.99 and the regular retail price is $26.00.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how great Marshall’s is? For a long time I didn’t like it because I could never find anything good but then I started going to a different store location and let me tell you, my wallet was not happy with me.  It’s crazy to me that they aren’t all the same but that makes sense if you think about how their system works. It’s a great store and if you are a person on a budget like me it will become your best friend.

Grease Lightning Tea Tree Cleanser- Lush – I use this as a spot treatment and it’s amazing! I put it on after I wash my face in the morning and before bed and after 3-4 days depending on the size of my acne it is gone!

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser – Okay remember how I was talking about the overly sensitive skin? This is the best cleanser I’ve found so far.  Other sensitive skin cleansers had still left my face with red blotchy dry patches and feeling super tight.  That is not a normal feeling and if that is happening you probably need to switch to a less harsh face wash.  It’s not too expensive and can be found at most drug stores and target.  If you have access to costco they sell it in a two pack and it’s the best bang for your buck.

Maybelline Gel Liner – Blackest Black – This is my go to eyeliner. I’m not a huge fan of liquid liners, gel is just neater and easier to use for me.  This one is pretty good but after a while the product in the pot gets flakey and then it’s not so good. To prevent that I scoop some product out using my spatula instead of dipping my brush into the product. I’m still on the hunt for my Holy Grail eyeliner, but don’t worry you will be the first to know when I’ve found it.

Night Owl eyeliner in Haunted by MadeULookByLex – When I first tried this product I didn’t like it very much. It was a little messy but it is a liquid liner. After using it a few more times it has quickly become my favorite! If you don’t use liquid liner often then it will take some practice but the foam type pen tip is really great for creating perfect wings.

Morphe Brushes 35W palette – This is my go to everyday eyeshadow palette. I even have a second one that I keep in my kit to use on clients. The W stands for Warm and so far it’s the best neutrals palette I’ve come across.  I have heard that some people find their eye shadows irritate their eyes but I’ve never had a problem with them. The great thing about Morphe Brushes is that they are very affordable so maybe try one eyeshadow to make sure it’s safe to use for you. I think their eye shadows go for about $2-$3.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade – Blonde – Everyone says it is amazing and honestly I always thought it was a little bit of hype, but this stuff is AMAZING! I never realized how incomplete my makeup collection was until I picked up this products. It’s creamy and stays in place all day, which is amazing for California Summers. This product was $18 at Macy’s.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Polish – I’ve picked up 2 colors recently. Mauve It (pictured below) and Sonic Bloom (pictured above). I forgot how much I love nail polish but mostly I forgot how much I love THIS nail polish, I also have a purple color I can’t seem to find. It really does dry instantly which is great for me because I often forget I just painted my nails and try pet one of the fluffy cats in my house. I’ve also found that it’s cheaper to get this nail polish at CVS for $5.79 rather than $7 and change at Target.

What were some of your favorite products during the month of June?

Wish List Wednesday!

SauceBox Cosmetics – Batalash Palette $60   At first I didn’t want this palette due to the $60 price tag and I didn’t think there was a lot I could do with it. The more I see Samantha from Batalash do more tutorials or how people on Instagram use the palette I WANT it! It’s so pretty and now that I’ve seen the color payoff on other people it looks like it is definitely worth the $60.

The only other thing I want is the Urban Decay Smokey palette but I’ll talk about that when it gets closer to launch.

Also a June favorites post this Friday!

What products are on your wish list?

Summer Time!

California is already having upper 90s type weather which means my skin is all red and blotchy. I don’t like wearing foundation in the summer so I’m still on the hunt for the perfect BB or maybe CC cream, or even a tinted moisturizer that will cover up a little of the redness without feeling like i’m melting by 2pm.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

Facechart Monday

Yesterday I really wanted to get all dolled up but had no idea what I wanted to do so I thought I would check out different facecharts on Pinerest.  So for this look I was inspired one of Valerie Vixen’s Amazing facecharts. (check out her instagram!!!)

How do you think I did? I love doing bright looks like this, it makes me wish I could wear them to work. I want to start doing Facechart Friday but i’ll most likely always post them on a Monday.

What are your favorite Facechart looks?
